The Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop at the 2007 Outreach Scholarship Conference
The Higher Education Network for Community Engagement (HENCE) is sponsoring the 2007 Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop, October 7-8, 2007, to be held in conjunction with the national Outreach Scholarship Conference in Madison, Wisconsin, October 7-9, 2007.
This workshop is especially for advanced graduate students (drafting Master's thesis topics or doctoral dissertation topics) AND junior faculty members in ANY discipline who also have an interest in community engagement and outreach scholarship. The workshop is designed for participants at any level of exposure to community engagement and/or outreach scholarship, with a purpose of building mentoring and networking opportunities that are integrated into the goals and activities of the Outreach Scholarship Conference.
Prospective workshop applicants should also demonstrate the following qualities:
- Be involved or interested in research that contributes to your disciplinary interests and that can have an impact on external stakeholders
- Demonstrate a desire for understanding how community engagement and outreach scholarship can be integrated into your early career success, including teaching, research and service responsibilities
- Demonstrate an interest in working with leaders across disciplines and sectors to understand how to implement community engagement and outreach scholarship
- Demonstrate the capacity to effectively communicate the results of engagement activity to public, academic, and other external audiences
Workshop participants will be expected to attend all sessions and participate fully in activities of both the workshop and the Outreach Scholarship Conference. Applicants will be asked to register for and be prepared to cover the registration fee of the national Outreach Scholarship Conference (see the Outreach Scholarship Conference website for registration information). Your registration fee not only covers the cost of the Emerging Engagement Scholars workshop, but also covers full attendance to the national Outreach Scholarship Conference.
Participants will be identified through a competitive selection process.
